If you for an entry-level GPS system that is easy to use but feature-rich search, you will be pleasantly surprised by this device. One of the dominant characteristics that many satisfied customers seem to appreciate the larger widescreen format in this device. But far and above, seems its redemptive function of its low price.
If your GPS device full of information that Magellan is what you seek. It is an ultra thin form factor with a weight of only got 8 ounces. The Magellan's widescreen format is still 4.3 inches, sports and anti-glare coaching.

For the price of the Magellan 1412 is a very successful navigation unit. If you get us on your first GPS device without the expensive fancy bells and whistles, should this be a good starting model. Magellan 1412 vs 3225

Compare took a little test drive of my 1412 and 3225 units (about 45 miles on Interstate RT and local roads). I will highlight only the differences, as the already scheduled JimmyK 3225 here in his excellent contribution.
The 1412 seems a stripped down version of the 3225, but has a bigger screen. The software is almost identical and the interface and controls are the same. The most notable difference is that the noise level is much better 1412, but the brightness of the display is smaller. The 1412 was a bit difficult in bright sunlight readable, if one wears sunglasses. (In the night of the 3225 too bright).
The 1412 does not come with a USB cable or AC adapter at home and not on an external antenna connection, although neither unit seems a necessity. My two units are very fragile and get 5 bar signal, even when mounted low in the car in the garage. Both units start and get their signals at the same time.
The larger screen is nice. The 1412 show more details, POIs and street names at equivalent scale settings. The maps and POI files on the 1412 are newer, from 07/04/2008. The routing directions are identical and appear almost simultaneously. The 1412 comes with a larger, 6 million POI file, but a similar file for 3225 was available.
The 1412 has a smaller memory capacity. It shows only 50 MB free internal memory of 33 MB. It stores all the maps, POI files and other data on a removable disk 2GB SD card. The 3225 is a 2GB internal storage (with 700 MB free) and other 2GB cards may be possible for the user POI, addresses, backups, etc. It will be added to use multiple cards with the 1412, but I do not know whether the card is branded.
The 1412 is a little more verbose and adds an extra set of any statement "on XYZ Street. This seems unnecessary, and sometimes it takes longer to make, quickly changing directions.
I plan to experiment with the various files and settings and is on this note, as it added the time allowed.
